Some of our all-time favourite slot games have been developed by Microgaming (now called Games Global)- one of the giants of casino game development along with Net Ent and others.
You’ll find a whole range of games here, from three reel slots like the Fruit Fiesta slot to classic entertainment that remains popular (like the Mermaids Millions Slot Game) and more recent 5 reel video slots that showcase some of the latest graphics and bonus innovations around.
If we were to pick one game out of all of the Microgaming slots that we feature, it would be a close call, but we’d probably end up voting for Thunderstruck 2. This game changed the scene when it was first launched with its multiple bonus options, 243 Ways to Win and great gameplay. It’s one of our most popular slots.
We’d also have to mention games like the Game of Thrones slot (many of the Microgaming slots that we feature are themed and licensed on blockbuster movies or TV shows). Check out our featured games section where you’ll find games like the Hot as Hades slot and other classics like the Tomb Raider slot and Mermaids Millions.
All in all, you’ll find the range of Microgaming video slots hard to beat- and that’s because they have been in the game for so long. This company is one of the longest-established slot developers and they continue to be very successful in this area with their range of 3-reel, 5-reel and progressive jackpot slots.
Big Blockbuster Slots
Microgaming launch big titles all the time, and now and then they will launch a big blockbuster game like Jurassic World, Halloween or the Phantom of the Opera Slot. Look out for the monthly releases.
The really big launches come out every quarter and the newer games are developed with a “mobile first” strategy. Their starting point is to make sure that the game looks and plays well on all sizes of screens.
243 Ways to Win or Pay Lines?
You’ll notice when you start browsing and playing our range of Microgaming slots, that different games are structured differently.
The most simple games are the 3 reel slots- these games are a bit like the fruit machines you’d find in a pub in the UK- with 3 reels and one pay-line across the centre of the reels, there isn’t much to explain. You choose your bet, you hit the spin button and you try and line up symbols along the centre line according to the pay table.
Most games these days are the 5 reel variety with more winning combinations, sophisticated graphics and bonus rounds. Generally speaking, you’ll need at least 3 scatter symbols anywhere across the reels to get into the bonus round. Other than that, you again play to the pay table, but the way the machine pays out will vary.
The earlier games and some of the more recent games will have more than one pay line. Instead of lining up your symbols across the middle reel, you’ll have the opportunity to line them up across 9, 15, 25 or even 40 and above pay lines. Click the Pay Table on the slot to see the different shapes of the pay lines.
Microgaming also has a range of premium slots like the Playboy slot which runs on a Ways to Win system- generally, in the base game, there are 243 Ways to Win on Microgaming slots. In the bonus round, you might see this go up as high as 1024.
What is “243 Ways to Win?” How Does it Work?
A 243 Ways to Win machine works just like a video slot with pay lines. There are 5 reels generally, with three symbols visible on each reel. You make a bet, often choosing what denomination and how many coins you want to bet.
You won’t need to pick the number of lines you want to play, however. This is set at 243 Ways to Win- meaning that every possible winning combination of adjacent symbols from left to right across the reels will net you a win. There are no pay lines to keep track of. Other games that are 243 Ways to Win include Avalon 2 and the Octopays slot among others.
In our Microgaming slots section, you’ll also find some excellent slot games from smaller design houses who have teamed up with Microgaming and now offer the games as part of their range.
One example is Rabcat slots, who make some fantastic games like the Arthurian Forsaken Kingdom slot (The Path of Valor).
The graphics on these games remind us of some of the best Net Ent slots we have seen- they’re super high definition and great fun to play. You’ll hear rolling thunder and crows in the background, and the ominous approach of horse’s hoofs. It’s a very atmospheric game.
Another favourite Rabcat slot production of ours is the Penguin Splash slot. This is just an out-and-out cute slot game with some funny graphics that should have you chuckling to yourself as you go for the jackpot.
The game-play is pretty straightforward – it has 25 pay lines and you can auto-play and gamble after a win. You will have a few penguins wobbling their backsides at you in between games, however!
One of the other things that we like about Microgaming is the range of classic slots like the Tomb Raider 1 & 2 and the Deck the Halls slot. These games continue to be popular as they got the game-play right from the start. Players return to these classics because they are thoroughly entertaining and there is so much choice.
New Microgaming slots come out all the time- they are always trying to push the limits on their games, and more and more of their titles are available as mobile slots. The new games are optimised for tablets and smartphones from launch, and more and more of the older games like the Isis slot are now available to play on smaller screens.
