Wombats can swim, but we’re not natural water dwellers. I prefer dry land to be honest.
But the beautiful siren that is the star of the Mermaid’s Millions slot? That’s a whole different story. Let’s do a “Deep Dive” into this classic game.
Let’s start with some facts about the game. This is a classic five-reel, three-row slot with fifteen pay lines, a Free Spins bonus and a Pick ‘n Win game. The Neptune symbol is wild, the chuckling Mermaid is the scatter and the Treasure Chest triggers the Pick Bonus.
This is a low variance game that was launched back in January 2008, but it’s still going strong on desktop and mobile.
It was launched by Microgaming and is now owned by Games Global.
It has become something of a cult classic over the years: let’s take a closer look!
Look and Feel
The game has a bright and breezy design- it’s a feel-good slot that will lift your mood, particularly if your luck is in. The bubbling soundtrack sets the scene immediately.
The graphics and sounds have a pleasingly retro feel: they don’t make them like this anymore!

As the scatters drop in, the Mermaid has a little chuckle.
Mermaids Millions Game Play
In this game you will need to select from one to fifteen lines – the more you play, the more you’ll need to bet of course, but you’ll have more chance of lining up winning combinations if you play the maximum number of lines.
You cannot change the number of pay lines you play on the mobile version – they are fixed at fifteen.
You will need to select the number of coins you want to play on each pay line followed by your coin size. You can bet with penny coins or 1.00 coins or denominations in between.
Betting fifteen lines with five 1.00 coins will give you a total bet of 75.00 in your local currency.
Betting 1 line with one penny coin will give you a total bet of 0.01.
Your symbols on the reels include a seahorse wearing a pair of shades, a precious pearl inside an oyster plus an ornate box brimming with jewels.
Your lower value symbols are the standard 10, J, Q, K & A playing card symbols decorated with objects from the ocean like sea snakes, pearls, lobsters and starfish.
The chuckling mermaid is the scatter symbol and the wild symbol is Neptune, God of the Sea. You will also find a treasure chest icon on the reels which will set off the bonus pick ‘n win game.
It’s a relaxing game to play (it’s that bubbling underwater soundtrack), until you get into the free spins round – and then the action starts to ramp up.
The Mermaids Millions slot’s fifteen pay lines are arranged as follows. These are fixed in the mobile version of the game.
You will need three, four or five scatter symbols anywhere across the reels to trigger ten free spins.
The scatter symbol is the Mermaids symbol. Scatter Wins are multiplied by the total number of credits you bet and two scatters trigger a 2x your bet win, three trigger a 4x win, four 50x and five scatters trigger a win of 400x your bet.
With three or more scatters, you enter the Free Spins Bonus round.
Once you trigger the Free Spins, all bets and lines played are the same as the game that set the bonus off in the first place, so it pays to bet all fifteen lines.
And the good news is, the free spins can be re-triggered from within the bonus round. This is one of our favourite features in a slot and it’s one of the reasons we like the Mermaids Millions slot.
The other good news about the Free Spins Bonus is that all wins are tripled in the feature.
The King Neptune symbol is Wild and will stand in for other symbols to make up winning combinations on active pay-lines (except for the Scatters and Treasure Bonus).
He will give you a cheeky wink when he drops in, the saucy old goat.
If you land five Neptune symbols across an active pay line, you will win 7500x your pay line bet. Let’s say you were betting one 1.00 coin across fifteen pay lines, and three Clams line up on a pay line. You would win 20.00 as three clams with pearls pay out 20x. Got it?
Play the demo on your desktop or mobile to get a good feel for the game. You just need to sign up at Wombat Casino and you will have access to all of our free games.
There’s one more feature that we haven’t discussed, and that’s the Treasure Bonus.
This is an additional feature that can be triggered during the base game and in the Free Spins round.
If you get 3x 4x or 5x of the treasure chests on an active pay-line, you’ll set off this feature.
This is a pick ’em game where you select three items to reveal prizes behind. Plus, you’ll also get paid for landing them in the first place.
Five Treasure Bonus symbols on an activated pay-line will net you 2500x your pay-line bet win which can be a lucrative feature in the bonus round.
Remember- you can also re-trigger Free Spins in the Mermaid Millions slot. All you need to do is land three more scatter symbols as you spin!
Mermaids Millions on Mobile
Here’s some more good news for you Wombat Fans: this slot game also works well on phones and tablets, as well as laptops and desktops.
Remember, you cannot change the coin size or the number of pay-lines that you play on the mobile version.
The mobile game is fixed at fifteen pay lines and you simply change the total bet that you would like to make for each spin, so in some ways, this is a more modern setup.
The designers must have figured out that there wasn’t enough space to include this option- it would have ended up being too fiddly. No one likes to make a “fat finger bet”.
Like many of the classic Microgaming slots games (now owned by Games Global), there is also an “Expert Mode” on your screen which reveals a few options, including an Auto-Play option. This feature is not available in all jurisdictions, including the UK.
You can set the spin number with either the 5x or 10x buttons, or hit “Auto Play” and the game will bring up a Spin Setting page where you can program in up to five hundred spins, and set a stop rule (when you win more than a certain amount for example).
About the Developer
Microgaming have been around for a very long time – since 1994 in fact when they introduced the first ever online casino.
But in 1998 the makers of the game turned their hands to making slots – the first being Cash Splash – and they haven’t looked back.
In 2022 they sold their titles including Mermaids Millions to Games Global.
These UK-based slot wizards have released some of our very favourite slots including the HBO hit Game of Thrones slot, the blockbuster movie game Jurassic Park and the Viking-themed slot Thunderstruck 2.

Are there any plans for a relaunch?
Games Global (formerly Microgaming) have been updating many of these classic games (like Agent Jane Blonde for example), in some cases with their partners: boutique game design studios.
I believe Mermaids Millions is on the list as it is one of their best loved games, but we don’t have any information on timing. It would be fun to see a sequel though!
