Strewth! Another footie slot and we are not talking Aussie rules, we’re talking round balls here! I’ve only just headed for half time oranges after a go on the Striker Goes Wild slot – where are the odd shaped balls? Actually, don’t answer that one.
Actually, I don’t mind. I like a good sports slot and this one- Soccer Safari – looks like it was inspired by the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Did you watch it? When I first switched the telly on, I spent half an hour running around with a rolled up Wombat Weekly trying to swat those darned mosquitoes until I realised it was those vuvuzelas.
Let’s fire up the game shall we, and see what the Safari Slot has to offer. This is a 30 pay-line game (5 more than the Wu Xing slot machine and plenty of others we could mention) with many of the animals you’d expect to see in the Kruger Safari Park, but instead of sniffing out tourists they’re slotting the ball into the back of the net!
Look and Feel
A very bright and colourful cartoon slot- our only comment is that it looks a bit busy- there is certainly enough going on to keep you entertained.
If you like games like the Foxin’ Wins Football Fever slot with a mix of toon characters and the beautiful game then you’re going to love it- so pull up an armchair and let’s get down to it. The Soccer Safari slot is wild and pays out the max, followed by the lion (well Messi’s first name is Leo), the rhino, the leopard and the warthog. They’re all players kicking footballs about and then you have a bunch of animal spectators that make up the lower paying symbols.
Go For Goal Bonus
The World Cup symbol is the Go For Goal scatter symbol. 3 or more of these puppies anywhere will trigger this nice little side game in which you can win up to 60,000 coins.
Once you are in, it’s time to put your lucky Beckham underpants on, because you’ll be taking some pot shots at goal. Pick a spot (either bottom left or right or top left or right corner) and drill that ball home! If you are successful, you will reveal your win.
Wild Free Spins
As well as the Go For Goal bonus, this game has a Wild Free Spins bonus which is triggered by the zebra referee symbol brandishing a red card. You need to land 2 of these- one on reel 1 and the other on reel 5.
You will get 5 free spins which are actually called Wild Free Spins- and that’s because the first and last reels expand to become wild which increases you chances of pulling together some tasty wins. The middle reels will then spin 5 times for free. Once that’s done (and hopefully you have scooped up some nice wins), the middle reels are held and reels 1 and 5 spin again. If you get 2 more of those angry looking zebra refs again, it’s groundhog day! You get 5 more free spins.
The nice thing about these bonuses is that you can trigger them simultaneously if you land 3 world cups and 2 zebra refs at the same time (it’s not an easy one to pull off, but we have seen it done). In this scenario, the bonus feature is played first, and then you’ll move onto the 5 Wild Free Spins. Nice!
That is the Soccer Safari Slot in a nutshell. You can also gamble after a win with the usual “pick a card, any card” mechanic. Guess the right colour to double your win and the right suit to quadruple it. And you can also play on auto if you hit the “Expert” text link which will bring up the auto-spins options.
Wombat Score 3.5/5
We liked it- quite a fun theme, but we did need to turn the sound down after a bit. It was becoming a bit vuvuzela-esque. The bonus rounds are good, I liked the way you get a chance to re-trigger your free spins at the end of the fifth spin.
