100% Welcome up to 200.00*
There are some things in life that really get our paws a-tingling. These include a stone-cold pint on a boiling hot day, Mrs Wombat’s special shrub stew (served up on anniversaries only) and the news that Elk Studios have got a game out.
So, I’m over the ruddy moon to tell you that the makers of our fave EVER game, Taco Brothers, are back with their Voodoo Gold slot – that comes with a mind-blowing 4,096 ways to win. If you’re used to playing 9 pay-line games like the Who’s the Bride? slot this can feel a bit daunting, but just get stuck in and you’ll soon pick up the key differences.
But that’s not all. Thanks to Elk’s new-fangled expanding game mechanic that pushes the play onto 8 reels– there’s also the possibility to win up to 262,144 different ways.
It’s madness I tell you, sheer madness!!!
But enough of the chat. Let’s play, before this wombat loses his marbles with anticipation… Wibble.
Look and Feel
Voodoo Gold is set deep in the green swamps of Louisiana, so expect this game to be jam packed with man-eating crocs, eerie black magic and light sprinkling of Deep South Bluegrass guitar. In short, all of the paraphernalia you might see in the Ozzy Osbourne video slot only with less heavy metal.
Some bloke called Kane (you’ll see him on the reels with a bandana round his head) has entered this scary-ass place in search of secret riches. But it’s no big deal as apparently, he’s a daring treasure hunter – though we reckon he looks more lot like Big Pete the barman from the Outback pub.
Mangrove trees with skulls embedded on them flank the reels, and a seriously creepy wooden house sits behind your game play. The whole slot is shrouded in a green mist that is guaranteed to get your fur standing on end.
As always from an Elk title, the controls are transparent making this slot a cinch to play on mobile.
Hats off again to Elk – this is one good lookin’ game that increase the creepy factor from games like the Book of Halloween slot and other fright fests.
Voodoo Gold is a 6-reel slot with 4 rows. Winning combos are made by landing 3x or more matching symbols across adjacent reels, starting from left to right. But, as we mentioned, the size of the reels can increase and with it, the number of ways to win.
How? Well let us explain. It’s all thanks to the avalanche mechanic that helps to cascade symbols into view from the top on every spin.
Any winning combos that land are paid out before they explode, to make room for new symbols to drop into place from above.
After each avalanche win, an expanding game mechanic becomes active, adding another row to the reels on each consecutive win, and increasing the game from 4 rows and 4,096 ways to a mind-blowing 8 rows with a totally mental 262,144 ways to win. Land a no-win spin and your expanding play is over.
Got it? Good. Cos it’s a ripper!
Your symbols on the reels in Voodoo Gold slot include a host of nasty voodoo-type artefacts: blue satanic stars, red hearts, green crucifixes, and yellow rams’ skulls.
You’ve also got bottles of poison, a severed chicken claw, a shrunken mummified head, a woman who looks like she loves a bit of voodoo, plus some dodgy dice and a top hat. And of course, our intrepid adventurer Kane.
The Wild in this slot is a voodoo doll and the Bonus icon is a green bomb-type symbol.
Just to make things even more exciting, the symbols will land as 2×2, 3×3 or 4×4 tiles– and any empty spaces that these symbols leave will become Voodoo Wilds.
Which hopefully means wins aplenty!
Free Spins and Bonuses
Grab a cuppa Wombat fans, as you’re going to need to be alert for this bit – there are loads of extras in the game.
According to the game’s blurb, Voodoo Gold slot has 3 unique features, the Bomb, the Dual Bomb and the Big Voodoo symbols that generate voodoo wilds. So, let’s take a look at them all…
Bonus symbols can land on any symbol drop, and when they do, all active symbols within a diamond- shaped area around the bonus symbol (except wilds and big voodoo symbols), explode to make way for brand new icons.
The Dual Bomb
This cool feature is triggered when 2x bonus symbols land on the reels at the same time. Any symbols that are touching the line made between both bonus icons will explode to be replaced by new symbols (except for the wilds and big voodoo symbols).
Big Voodoo Symbols
As mentioned, game icons can land as 1×1, super 2×2, mega 3×3 and epic 4×4 icons – with these epic symbols being made up of 16 (yes, 16) standard 1×1 tiles.
The Free Drops Bonus Game
This is triggered by landing 3x or more bonus symbols anywhere on the reels. 3x bonus symbols gives you 6 free drops, 4x bonus symbols 9 free drops, 5x bonus symbols award 12 free drops and if you get lucky enough to scoop 6x of the bonus symbols you’ll be given 15 free drops.
That’s more spins than a Tasmanian Devil.
Plus, during the Free Drop round, all non-winning wilds are collected and will become sticky, increasing the potential of seriously epic wins.
This wombat will have to have a sit down on his furry bottom… It’s all too much.
As with all Elk Studio slots, players can also set their betting strategy via the game’s Bet Level selector, which is a nice touch… Just click on the coin and + icon to the left of the reels.
After any win, the bet level will increase by x1, up to 4 levels above the original bet (that means x10). After a losing spin the bet level will reset. So, for example if your original bet is €0.15 per spin, in case of 4 consecutive wins the bet will go to €0.30, €0.60, €0.90, up to €1.50
Well, this is the opposite of Jumper. The bet level will increase by x1 after each loosing spin, up to 4 levels. After a winning spin the bet level will reset.
The bet level will increase by x2 after 5 consecutive losing spins. It can happen twice. A winning round will reset to basic level.
This great-looking slot and all the additional features mean it’s non-stop action. In fact, this wombat feels quite dizzy!
Voodoo Gold is high variance, and what with the creepy theme too, it’s not one for the faint hearted. But if you’re made of stern stuff and can wait a while for the Free Drops, you could make a nice pile… We also LOVED the expanding reels.
Wombat score: 4.5/5 A great slot but perhaps with one too many features.
