Dio Killing the Dragon slot from Play’n GO takes you on a journey of fire breathing-dragons and heavy metal rock. The game features American heavy rock band Dio, and named after their 9th studio album of the same title – Killing the Dragon.
I do have a few Iron Wombat albums in my collection, so I was pretty keen to see what all the fuss was about this game.
Dio Killing the Dragon is the latest game in Play’n GO’s epic rock series, which includes, Alice Cooper and The Tome of Madness slot, Kiss Reels of Rock, Def Leppard Hysteria slot and ZZ Top Roadside Riches. All available at Wombat Casino!
This slot has rock stars, its own playlist, dragons, demons, castles and wolves. It’s loaded with action packed features too like locking Wilds in the main game and Free Spins with several different possible modifiers. What more could you want for online slot entertainment?
The aim of the game is to defeat the dragons and monsters and lock up the wolves, as well as trying to win a few coins on the way!
As with the rest of the slots in Play’n GO’s rock series, Dio Killing the Dragon has outstanding graphics. The setting is a gothic building set high in craggy mountains. The background is dark with lots of purple, black and red – top heavy metal colours.
Compare it to something like the Ticket to Riches slot from Northern Lights and you will start to appreciate the effort that goes into the design of these Play ‘n Go games.
When you fire up the game Dio’s infamous lead singer, Ronnie James Dio is sitting on the throne in the centre of the screen in a dark gothic castle and a dragon flying overhead. Murray, Dio’s terrifying looking mascot, is standing behind. Dio fans will recognise Murray from album covers, such as The Last In Line. And a dragon leaps into the foreground, instantly setting everything alight with one scorching breath.
This Wombat really likes the Playlist feature at the bottom left of the screen. I’m not a Dio fan, but the 3 tracks on the playlist, Evil Eyes, Don’t Talk to Strangers and We Rock make a nice change to the electronic beeps you get on a lot of online video slots. Evil Eyes is a good choice for the Playlist, this slot is full of them!
Dio Killing the Dragon Slot Gameplay
Dio Killing the Dragon slot has 5 reels, 3 rows and 243 Ways to Wins. The minimum bet is 0.10 coins up to a maximum of 100.00, so covers all budgets. This is a highly volatile game (expect to go many spins without any success) with a maximum win of up to 15000x your bet.
In the base game Dio is the highest value symbol, followed by the 3 monsters, Moon, Magica and Dragon. The lower value symbols are the usual deck of cards Club, Spade, Diamond and Heart. The Wolf symbol is the Wild and Murray the Mascot the Scatter. Look out for Murray as he’s the Free Spin man.
Dio Killing the Dragon is all about the features both in the base game and the Free Spins feature:
Wolf Wild feature: There will be an open cage on each spin in the base game. If a Wild Wolf lands in the cell, it stays in place, another cage gets added to the reels, and you receive a respin. The feature can be triggered four times by landing sticky Wolf Wilds in the cells.
Free Spins: Landing three or more Murrey the Mascot Scatters on any position on the reels will trigger the Free Spins bonus round. Land 3, 4, or 5 Scatters and win 6, 8 or 12 Free Spins respectively. Whenever a Wolf Wild lands on reels 2, 3, or 4 during the feature, it will stay in place for the bonus duration. This the Wild One option.
In addition, the appearance of the Crystal Ball bonus symbol on reel 5 activates several features and modifiers. The matching bonus round will start, and you’ll receive two additional Free Spins:
Fallen Angel – This features triggers a falling wild added to the top of reel one. It moves down a row on each free spin until it drops off at the reels’ bottom.
Symbol Upgrade: The Monster symbol with the lowest value gets upgraded to the higher Dio symbol value. You can continue upgrading all the monster symbols until they are all Dio symbols. You will then have defeated the monster.
Wild multiplier: Randomly selected sticky wilds on reels 2 – 4 can increase up to x5 your bet for bigger wins.
Dio Killing the Dragon slot is a great addition to Play’n GO’s rock series, which should appeal to both slot and heavy metal fans(although maybe not Fluffy Favourite players!)
The game has a lot going on in both the Base Game and Free Spins round which keeps it entertaining. This Wombat enjoyed playing this game, even though I’m not a huge heavy metal fan. I have done a bit of head bangin’ in my time, just not recently. That Iron Wombat track “Run to the Burrows” was always a favourite.
The graphics are great and I like the Free Spins bonuses and features. The game is highly volatile, so you can always have a spin in demo mode to get a feel for it before playing for real.
