The wombat says: Grab your bathers as we venture deep below the ocean waves Wombat Fans in the aquatic-themed Dolphin Quest slot from Microgaming. This is a beautifully designed game- a real step up from the likes of the Old King Cole slot and others in the Rhyming Reels range.
This wombat likes dolphins, in fact we’ve never met a nasty one. And as you know dolphins are a smart bunch which means they must know where the treasure lies – so join them on their quest for some underwater mega wins! But will this slot sink or swim? Let’s take a look.
Look and Feel
Ever wanted to swim with the fishes? Well now here’s your chance. The see through reels in Dolphin Quest are set against a tropical-looking underwater backdrop and accompanied by a Caribbean reggae-style soundtrack. The 3D graphics are crisp, and we love how the ocean comes alive with the bubbles and waves, and swimming fishes Overall a very nice-looking game indeed. Compare it to earlier games like the Bridezilla slot and there is no comparison. It’s a thumbs up to Microgaming!
Dolphin Quest Game Play
Dolphin Quest slot has 5 reels, 3 rows and 50 pay-lines. Yep. That’s 50 times as many pay-lines as the Enchanted Woods slot! Your symbols on the watery reels are made up of some brightly coloured marine life and include slimy red octopi, lovely old turtles, some shy hermit crabs, graceful stingrays, yellow seahorses, some rather ugly-looking puffer fish, and of course, the cute bottle-nose dolphins themselves.
The Dolphin Quest Logo will act as the Wild in the game and substitutes for all other symbols on your reels except for the scatter (which is the golden dolphin that says ‘Scatter’ on it) to help you form more winning combos. It also lands as a Stacked Wild and will fill the entire reel it lands on, which is a nice touch.
Deep Sea Bonus Feature
It’s treasure time! The Dolphin Quest Bonus feature is set off when you land 3x or more Dolphin Scatter symbols on reels, 2, 3 and 4. But here’s an FYI Wombat Fans; this is not a Free Spins Bonus Round.
No, instead you’ll be taken to a second screen where a shiny new set of reels will appear on your screens. These 3 reels will now spin inside a waterfall, and each of the reels contains a load of numbers big and small (these are coin values running into the thousands, yee ha!) All you have to do is hit the ‘stop’ button, and you will win the amounts which are displayed when the reels come to a standstill.
This can still be a very lucrative bonus game indeed (even without the Free Spins) especially if you’re lucky enough to land 3x of the high-scoring values on each of the 3 reels.
Not a bad addition to the world of underwater slots. Dolphin Quest moves along at a decent pace and gives you regular pay outs, plus we are big fans of the look and feel too. That said, we really could have done with a few more extra features, as if you don’t land high numbers in the Bonus round, you’ll never achieve those massive wins. Still, give it a spin and see for yourselves! It’s time to dive in.
Wombat score: 4/5
