Intro

The initial Western Gold slot proved so popular that Just For The Win has released a sequel called Western Gold 2: Double Barrel. All of the favourite features from the original are available here, with additional bonus features thrown in to maximise the entertainment. The action takes place near the Narcos Mexico slot, but this is a different era of course.

It’s a bit of a mystery as to why Just For The Win chose to give Western Gold a follow-up so quickly. However, we’re not complaining as this game is highly entertaining.

Western Gold 2 Slot Design

Just For The Win plays out on a five-reel, three-row slot grid here with forty pay-lines to line up matching symbols. The play grid is framed by a golden frame patterned to look like a cowboy belt buckle helping the reels to stand out against the backdrop. Yee haw!

The game logo is top-left with a large purple ‘2’ and ‘Double Barrel’ in capital letters underneath.

The background is a wide expanse of desert spreading far into the distance, where it meets mountains that reach up through the sand-coloured haze to the sky above.

Across the bottom of the screen, you can check your bank balance and the bet of each spin, so it’s easy to keep an eye on your kitty during play.

Western Gold 2 Gameplay

You can land pay-outs for combinations of between three and five symbols across the 40 pay-lines in play here. The more symbols that fill the pay-line, the better the pay-out. The symbols have different values of course.

The lowest returns in Western Gold 2 are delivered from combinations of the cowboy items (playing cards, boots, hats and pistols). These offer pay-outs of 1x and 1.5x the stake for five across a pay-line.

The higher value symbols across the pay-lines include Single, Double and Triple BAR symbols and Blue 7’s returning up to 30x the stake. The big base game payout comes from the horseshoe scatter symbols; between four and twelve of these, landing in a single spin pays out between 1x and 10,000x your stake.

There is also a ‘W’ Wild symbol, a sheriff’s badge Free Spin symbol, a Mustang and a Wrangler symbol. These symbols relate to the game’s bonus features- more on those below.

Western Gold 2 Bonus Features

The horseshoe scatter symbol triggers decent pay-outs instead of triggering bonus features. Other symbols in play will trigger bonus rounds with additional features and game play to enjoy.

To trigger the Free Spins in Western Gold, you must land three of the Free Spins badge symbols in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th reels. These reward players with three Free Spins that reset every time a Scatter or Mustang symbol appears across the reels offering further chance to win for free.

The Free Spins begin with a 1x multiplier that can increase using the Feature Barrel that is spun each time a mustang symbol lands on reel 5. The features here are:

– Cash Collect – pays out the current value cash price from the Cash Barrel.
– Upgrade – increase prizes available on the Cash Barrel.
– Multiplier – increase the win multiplier during this feature by +1.
– Extra Spin – add an extra spin to the count which remains in place with each reset.
– Super Free Spins – upgrade to the Super Free Spins feature.

Players can trigger the Super Free Spins in the main game by landing three Free Spin badges in the middle three reels and 2 Wranger symbols on the 1st and 5th reel.
