True Grit Redemption
You may not be aware of the 1969 movie True Grit, (even I am struggling on that one) and although this game is based off that movie, you do not need to have seen the film before playing this slot.
John Wayne won an Oscar for his performance as Marshal Rooster Cogburn was a great display of acting skills. The movie was a treat to the eyes of all who watched the scenes unfold. I think that line “Get off yer horse and drink yer milk” must have swayed it for him.
The True Grit Redemption Slot has been created by our favourite game designers Nolimit City and takes some of the features of the classic movie and weaves the story into the spinning of some rusty ol’ reels. It makes a change from an Egyptian theme (we’ve just been playing the Secret of Dead slot by the way).
Look and Feel
The symbols that appear most commonly in this game are the standard card symbols, although they have been dusted down in this game to match the theme. It’s along similar lines to Dynamite Riches Megaways which is another game from out West.
With the movie being a Western, the letters all look like they are framed straight from the wall of a Western Saloon. Something that is unique about these lower tier symbols is the fact that each one of them pays out differently.
The lowest is 10 which pays out 0.2x your stake for 6 of a kind, up to A which pays 0.75x your stake for the same. Other symbols in this game are various characters, more easily defined by the colours they are displayed in. These are Green, Blue, Cyan, Purple, Red and Yellow, which pay out from 0.85x up to a whopping 500x as you move up the list.
True Grit Redemption Game Play
The game play is smooth and reasonably complex: there are three different reels to watch on each spin. There is a top reel, the main reels, and a bottom reel, all of which play different roles in the game.
The top row only holds 3 symbols, in which you will only ever see Character or Wild symbols, and if the symbols present in this reel match the symbols in the main reel, they will become wilds.
The main reel is where the main action takes place, and where you will see all of the combinations created on each spin. This main reel is the main section of the game where the top paying symbol will appear on up to 4 reels to offer you 500x your stake.
You will notice a diagonal area of locked spaces in the main reels, which will open diagonally if there are Scatter symbols on your reels. One scatter opens the bottom 4, another opens the next three, another for the next 2 and another for the final space.
The bottom row can be locked again, and these symbols can hold either characters or special symbols. The furthest-right space on this reel will always contain a Sticky Wild with an assigned multiplier. The special symbols available in this reel are xNudge Wilds, Transform ‘em symbols, Reel Split, Wild, xWays and Infectious xWays. Got that? Don’t wory, it all becomes obvious afte a few spins Wombat fans!
There are multiple bonus features in this game that all do different things for your game play. The first of these is the Wild Transform feature we mentioned earlier which causes matching symbols between the top reel and the main reel to turn into Wilds.
There is also the xNudge Wilds, where the stacked Wild symbol at the bottom moves around the reels until it is fully visible. During the nudging process, the multiplier increases by 1; an extra +1 is added if it nudges over a normal Wild. When it finally stops on the reels, it will grant you a multiplier on the next spin.
Continuing on, you can land xWays and Infectious xWays symbols. xWays can appear on the main or bottom reels, and Infectious symbols can only appear on the bottom reel. The regular xWays symbol will transform into a regular symbol but will also reveal 2 or 3 of the same symbol and increase your ways of winning. The Infectious xWays will reveal 2 symbols, and upon activation, the revealed symbol will infect all of the other symbols of the same type and expand to the same size.
Reel Split appears at the bottom reel, and doubles all symbols above it on the main reel, and then vanishes which causes the bottom reel to collapse. The Transform ‘em feature can appear in the bottom reel and will transform all symbols into the same symbol.
In terms of actual Bonus rounds, Torture Spins and Dead Spins are your options. Torture Spins are activated by landing 3 scatter symbols. You will get 8 spins, and any scatter symbol that lands after this will grant a new spin.
The game area is increased and all locked positions are unlocked if the Scatter is affected by the Reel Split. A fourth scatter symbol will change the round into Dead Spins and grant you 2 free spins plus 1 for each extra split part of the scatter.
The Dead Spins round is triggered and then during this round you can land sticky Wilds and more to increase your wins.
One factor we have not mentioned up to this point is the maximum payout, which is 20,220x the base bet. This is a whopping maximum win, and soemthing we have seen on a number of Nolimit City games.
Overall, the True Grit Redemption slot is very entertaining with an exceptional amount of bonus features and symbols that make it all the more exciting to play. You do need a few spins to get your head around it though! Test out your luck today with the Wombat and see what you can land!
