Terminator II
The wombat says: Whoop whoop! As as die-hard Arnie fan, when this wombat discovered there was a Terminator 2 slot he was overjoyed. Put it this way, Mrs Wombat didn’t see me for a week. In fact, it really was a case of “I’ll be back…”
This slot from Microgaming is based on 1991 blockbuster action movie Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and is jam-packed with features, characters and real clips from the film (including Arnie’ famous catchphrases) that double up as symbols on the reels. The graphics and animations are great – a big step up from other games like the Burning Desire slot and Cashanova. This game is in the same league as the Jurassic Park slot machine on the graphics and animations front.
The year is 1995 and cyborg T-800 (aka Arnold Schwarzenegger) goes back in time to save Sarah Connor and her son John from a more advanced and even deadlier model, the liquid metal shapeshifting T-1000.
As one of our fave movies of all time here at Wombat Towers, we couldn’t wait to don our shades and say, ‘Come with me if you want to live’. But will the slot be a blockbuster hit? Or box office flop? Let’s take a look at the game.
Look and Feel
Set on a background of some heavy-duty machinery, the superb cyber-inspired graphics and original movie score make this feel like you are in the film. I’ve just realised- that stripped down older Terminator really reminds me of the skulls on the Esqueleto Explosivo slot machine (another great game you should check out, by the way).
It’s pretty awesome.
Game Play
Terminator II has 5 reels and is a ‘243 ways to win’ slot game. So what does that actually mean? Well Wombat fans, it’s pretty simple; land a combo of 3 or more matching symbols on consecutive reels anywhere from left to right, and you win. It’s like having 243 pay-lines but without all the bother…
Your symbols on the reels are made up of Sarah Connor, John Connor JR, T-1000, T-800 and of course, the Terminator himself. Your low value symbols are represented by the 4 playing card suits given a rather nice metallic overlay treatment.
The Wild in this slot is represented by the T2 symbol, that substitutes for all other icons, except the scatter. While the Scatter is the purple glowing ball that says Scatter on it. 3x or more of these anywhere on the reels will trigger your Free Spins bonus.
T-800 Vision Feature
Had a no-win spin? Fear not slot fans, these won’t always leave you empty handed – as a losing spin can randomly set off the T-800 Vision feature. Here you’ll see the reels through Arnie’s Terminator eyes as he scans the screen looking for targets. Players receive an extra cash top-up for any character symbol on the reels. Plus, if you’ve landed a Scatter symbol, get ready to be very dizzy, as just 1x of these bad boys will set off your Free Spins.
Free Spins Bonus
Now you’ve really hit the big time! In the bonus round, the layout of the reels changes to form a 5×4 reel on a red cyborg background, with a very generous ‘1,204 ways to win’ on offer.
But that’s not all, the T-1000 symbol also transforms (in his creepy shape-shifting way) into any other character on the reels, so you can bag the best possible winning combo. Thanks Mr Terminator!
Conclusion:
Those slot geeks at Microgaming just love a blockbuster. Yes, aside from this action-packed slot, there’s also Jurassic Park and pokie (that’s what we call a slot Down Under) of the moment, Game of Thrones, too. So, as you can imagine, we had high hopes for Terminator II. And while the game plays like a terminating dream machine that will satisfy any fan of the sci-fi franchise, the payouts are unpredictable, and Free Spins are a bit elusive. Still, all-in-all it’s a decent slot that’s worth a punt. Hasta la vista baby…
Will we see any more of the Terminator franchise coming to the smaller spinny screen? Let’s hope so- there is plenty of mileage in this franchise not least with the original Terminator movie (although I have to say I preferred the follow up movie to the first one).
Then there’s Terminator 3 (Rise of the Machines), Salvation and Genisys. But you want to know what the big news is? Well, that’s Terminator 6 of course which is a re-boot of the franchise. Come on Microgaming, let’s be having a Terminator 6 slot please!
Wombat score: 4/5
Terminator II is no longer available at Wombat Casino. Sorry about that!
