The wombat says: Robin Hood was that fella in green tights who robbed from the rich and gave to the poor, right? Yeah, this wombat learnt all about that crazy galah back in Primary School. I could never work out why he got rid of all his cash, but maybe that’s just me… Anyway, Genesis Gaming have dispensed with the ballet dancer from Sherwood Forest and introduced a pretty blonde girl in a red dress called Robyn (who’s quite handy with a bow and arrow) for this update of the legendary folk tale. So another great slot with a female lead (there’s also the Shangri-La slot, Tomb Raider, Agent Jane Blonde- need we go on?)
Let’s dive on in, and get straight to the point (sorry, bad pun).
Look and Feel
Genesis have gone down the medieval/fantasy route with Robyn slot. Fluttering banners flank your reels which are set on a background of a misty emerald green forest, and the 3D graphics are quite pleasing to the eye- there’s a lot of work in those drawings compared to something like the Giant Gems slot machine. Speaking of which, make sure you watch out for those ruddy arrows will ya?
Robyn is 5 reel slot with 3 rows, and it’s a ‘243 ways to win’ game. This means there are no pay line structures per se, and you’ll scoop a win simply by matching symbols anywhere on the reels from left to right. So there’s no more worrying about pesky pay-lines, hurrah!
Your symbols on the reels include Robyn with her luscious locks and trusty bow, her horse who is a rather daft looking nag, a cheesy-faced Prince Charming and then there’s an evil-looking lady who could be the female Sheriff of Nottingham. Your lower value symbols are made up of the usual playing cards 9, 10, J, Q, K and A – but have been given a nice ‘ye olde numbers’ treatment.
The Wild symbol in the game is the green ‘Wild’ sign and it will substitute for all other symbols on your reels (except for the scatters) to help you make more winning combos. And speaking of Scatters, Robyn herself is the game’s Scatter, so keep your peeled for this ferocious maiden.
All in all, it’s a lovely design – the drawings are up there with the likes of the Fortunes of Sparta slot. But that was a different time….
During normal game play, red Target symbols will appear on the reels. And when they do, our feisty heroine Robyn will pop up at the bottom of the screen and starts firing arrows at them. The target symbols will then turn into other random symbols to increase your chances of winning.
Wild Arrow Free Spins
Land 3x or more of the Robyn scatter symbols and you’ll be given 12 Free Spins. Cheers Robyn! During the bonus round, the handy little red Target symbol is still in play, but instead of becoming a random symbol when Robyn shoots at it, it will turn into a Wild, instead.
Where are Friar Tuck and the rest of the gang? All truth be told this wombat was a bit disappointed not to see more characters from the famous folklore added into Robyn slot. And although we like the Target feature, there aren’t the kind of extras that we come to expect form top- notch slots these days.
Wombat Score: 3/5
Worth a shot (get it?)
