Retro Reels
Retro Reels
The wombat says: Retro Reels from Microgaming looks just like a classic old-fashioned fruity straight out of 1950s Las Vegas. One of the oldest online slots we’ve played, this relic might look a bit past it, but there’s a charm in its simplicity.
So, instead travelling back in time to get the real feel of old-style Vegas slot machines, you can just play it here Slot Fans! Don’t say we don’t spoil you…
Look and Feel
With a slot name like Retro Reels, you know what to expect from the graphics. Yes, old-fashioned fruity reels and a straightforward casino interface. Basically, this slot harks back to to the very first gambling slots and uses traditional symbols like fruits, 7’s and Bars. The game’s design is very simple and does what it says on the tin – which is no bad thing.
Game Play
Retro Reels is a 5-reel slot with 3 rows and 20 paylines. Your symbols on the reels include the red, white, and blue Lucky 7s, along with single, double, and triple bars. Then there’s the cherries, lemons, plums and the golden dollar sign that make up the rest of your symbols.
There is no Wild symbol in Retro Reels, but it does have a Scatter Symbol which is the 5 Spin icon. 2x or more of these Scatters anywhere on the reels will award you a nice chunky payout and, in addition, will set off the Free Spins round. Here, you’ll get a minimum of 5 Free Spins, plus all your wins will get a 2x multiplier.
The number of spins you’ll be given depends on how many scatters you landed to activate the bonus round – with 5 free spins for each symbol. The free spins can be also be re-triggered.
Retro Reels Re-Spins
Apparently Retro Reels was the first ever online slot game to introduce the Re-Spin Bonus feature. Who knew?
After any spin, a Respin button will appear below each reel giving you the chance to respin ANY reel for a price. The cost of each re-spin is displayed below each reel, and how much you’ll pay depends on the likelihood of you landing a symbol that will end up as part of a winning combo.
So, if you’ve landed 2 red 7s on a payline, you can re-spin reel 3 and try to get a third one. Or, if you have 3x lemons (which already makes you a winner), you can re-spin reel 4 to try for a 4x lemon combination, which pays out a much bigger jackpot. After you’ve clicked a Respin button, the respective reel will start spinning while the other 4 are held in place.
The good news is you can use the Respin feature as many times as you like! But beware, reckless use of this cheeky little button will seriously drain the credits in your coffers!
Conclusion
We love the re-spin feature in Retro Reels, but this wombat really does miss the Wild symbol in this game, as the winning combos just don’t seem to happen as often as they should. A simple slot that will keep you busy for an afternoon, try it out!
