Munchers
The wombat says: Ah gardening. Literally going back to the roots … Tending and nurturing plants from seed to fruit! Yes, this Wombat loves a a bit of horticulture, it’s such a calming & relaxing thing to do. And best of all we can retire to the shed when Mrs Wombat is giving us an earful. Which brings me to Munchers, which isn’t so relaxing, as we find ourselves trapped in a greenhouse with a whole load of giant hungry carnivorous plants. Let’s enter the gruesome garden and spin the reels that sits in the cartoon section along with the When Pigs Fly slot and Copy Cats.
Munchers slot is set in a derelict greenhouse which is far from being a Garden of Eden. Huge mutant carnivorous plants fill the reels who look like something straight out of The Little Shop of Horrors, along with all manner of creepy bugs & spiders that are running the show. Those plants will munch on anything that comes their way, and we particularly like the meat-eating lettuce. Perhaps he’s on the prowl for juicy vegetarians – now that would be ironic. Alanis Morrisette should have sung about that back in the 90’s (instead of getting a free ride when you already paid).
The game itself has 5 reels, with 3 rows and 25 pay-lines. The lower values are represented by the usual 9, 10, J, Q, K & A playing cards, while the four high value symbols are; a pair of gardening gloves, a crossed fork & trowel, a old big spider in its web and a red-eyed gross fly. Just like the Joker Jester slot, this game was hatched up by those mad slot professors over at NextGen gaming.
Our bug-eyed friend is also the highest paying symbol with a payout of 1500 coins if you manage to line up all 5 of ’em on a pay-line. The aforementioned carnivorous plants, or munchers, act as Wilds in the game, while your Scatter symbol comes in the form of watering cans. As you can see, this slot is a bit on the quirky side – it’s also accompanied by a funky soundtrack with plenty of sax.
Despite the wacky theme of this slot Wombat Fans, the game-play is fairly straightforward- like a sort of Halloween Horrors slot machine without the skulls. There’s only one bonus game and it’s a Free Spin round which is triggered by landing 3x or more of the Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels.
Sadly for us, there’s no multiplier or re-spins during the bonus round. However, at any random moment, any of the Muncher Wilds can expand and turn an entire reel Wild. And this, my slot-crazy companions, has the potential to turn a barren field into a blooming landscape.
After any winning spin, you can chose to gamble your payout. Either you guess the colour of a hidden card (black or red) which pays double. Or, you can also go for the suit which pays x4. However, as tempting as it might sound to quickly double or even quadruple your sizeable wins, this gamble feature as it adds an unnecessary element of extra risk. We advise you treat every win like a delicate flower and to protect it from harsh climates!
We liked Munchers slot, it’s a nice game with fun graphics and some snazzy sound effects. However, you’ll have to wait for the Free Spin round in order to make big wins, and we do miss extra features like multipliers. But give this slot a go, it will keep you entertained for quite a while – just don’t get eaten up!
