The Wombat says: Abracadabra! No, we’re not talking about that catchy eighties song by fellow Aussies and my favourite band ever Men At Work, but real magic instead. You know, the David Blaine kind.
Now don’t get us wrong, this Wombat loves nothing more than a good old pun, we come from a long line of award-winning wombat wordsmiths.
So when we discovered that this slot was called ‘Magic Ian’, and the theme was all things to do with conjuring, a small part of our soul died… Harry Houdini! Siegfried and Roy! Criss Angel! and er, Ian. It’s not the most magical of names now is it?
Still, Wombat fans, fear not! With an astounding fifteen different bonus features on offer, it looks like the extensive gameplay will more than make-up for the name! Blueprint is famous for its bonus-packed games of course (just take the Diamond Mine slot out for a spin if you don’t believe us) and this game is the rule, not the exception.
Let’s fire up these conjurer’s reels and see just what’s in the magician’s box…
Look and Feel
The design in this slot is themed on those old-fashioned Victorian illusionists and has been done well. It’s certainly up there with the likes of the Jumanji slot machine (based on the game, not the latest films) and the Ted Slot- Blueprint’s other masterpiece.
The backdrop is a rich red old theatre and your spins are accompanied by some cool jaunty classical violin. The graphics are cartoon style and Magic Ian hovers over the reels (which are very small when played on a desktop).
In fact, as an FYI: this game looks better on smaller screens. Kind of like the Lightning Horseman slot we’d say – it’s funny how games come alive sometimes on your phone.
Magic Ian Game Play
Magic Ian is a five-reel slot with three rows and twenty-five pay lines. Bets start at 0.25 and the top bet is 125.00, meaning there’s something on offer here for everyone. From the casual slot fan to those high rollers among you.
Your symbols on the reels include the game’s logo, a magical glowing top hat, a magician’s locked box, and some colourful flowers as your high-value symbols. Meanwhile, the playing card suits; clubs, spades, hearts and diamonds make up the lower-value icons.
The white rabbit icon is the Wild in this slot and will do the usual job of replacing all other symbols on the reels to give you extra winning matches (bar the bonus symbol).
And speaking of which, the bonus symbol in the Magic Ian slot is Magic Ian himself grinning with the words ‘bonus’ underneath in green. Keep your eyes peeled for him as he will trigger off the Bonus Feature.
Magic Ian Modifiers
There are also ten (yes, that’s right, there are ten of them) randomly triggered little extras in the base game that can be set off by Ian during any spin – and these are called Magic Ian Modifiers. They are as follows:
– Expanding Reels: Your reels will expand up to eight rows high and your pay lines will double to fifty.
– Levitation Spins: Extra symbols will levitate onto the reels to create new winning combinations.
– Teleport Spins: A second set of reels is added which will double your chances of winning.
– Mirrored Reels: Reels two and five will show matching symbols.
– Chest Of Wonder: The magic chest sitting at the bottom of the reels will traverse the screen and turn whole reels wild. Awesome!
– Symbol of Surprise: Special mystery symbols are added to cover whole reels.
– Magical Streak: A re-spin streak is awarded and will just keep on spinning until no new matching icons appear.
– Shuffling Symbols: Ian will shuffle your symbols (like a deck of cards) to turn a losing spin into a winning one. Cheers, Ian!
– Bonus Boost: Extra Bonus Symbols are added to the reels.
– Super Bonus Spin: If you land two bonus symbols, you’ll be given a re-spin and the chance to trigger the Circle of Magic Bonus.
Free Spins and Bonus Features
Hold on to your top hats wombat fans, as this is where things get even more exciting! There is also a whole load of bonuses in the Magic Ian slot to get your paws tingling…
Circle of Magic Bonus
You can set off this magical feature wombat fans if you manage to land in three of the Magic Ian bonus symbols anywhere on reels 2, 3 and 4. Next, you are taken to a Wheel of Fortune and must pick three out of the four cards below to add special features to it – multipliers, feature upgrades or extra wins. When you have found the card that says ‘Spin’, the wheel will turn and the pointer will land, one of the following features:
Cash Prize: This awards you a random multiplier of your total bet.
Magic Rope Spins: It’s Free Spins a go-go with added Magic Rope wilds. The reels will expand one position higher every time a Magic Rope wild drops in.
Teleport Spins: Say hello to a second set of reels that opens up on top of the other one. During your spins, all wilds will transfer to the other reel. Cool!
Levitation Spins: This is a free spins round where a random number of extra Wilds will float onto your reels
Metamorph Spins: More Free Spins but this time any Wilds that land on the middle three reels will become sticky, and you’ll get a re-spin and the reels will expand their height by one position.
After any winning spin of 20x your bet or more in either the base game or bonus, Magic Ian (the kind fellow) will give you the option of a further gamble of your cash prize! Either collect the win or gamble to give you the chance to enter the bonus. Good lad!
The name might be cheesy, but don’t let that put you off Wombat fans. The base game magic modifiers land pretty often and help to bump up your coffers quite nicely, and even though The Circle of Magic bonus is tougher to trigger, it’s certainly worth the wait.
We liked this Blueprint game a lot – and enjoyed ticking off the HUGE number of bonuses! Go on, give it a spin!
Wombat score: 4.5/5
Loses half a point for the title.
This game is no availalbe to players from the UK. Why not have a spin on the other favourite from Blueprint Games – Fishin’ Frenzy slot?
