The Wombat says: We all know the tale of Alice in Wonderland. When I was still a wee wombat joey, I never knew what to make of it to be honest … A little girl follows a white rabbit into a hole, falls into some kind of parallel universe with talking caterpillars, grinning cats and all sorts of more bonkersness.
Well, I do remember that I liked the Mad Hatter, right after the Queen of Hearts (‘off with his head!!!’) my favourite character.
And now there’s a slot game featuring the hat wearing nutter – so let’s get this tea party started that tea party then!
Look and Feel
Everything in the Mad Hatters slot is a bit bonkers. From the moment the game starts, you’d believe that you have visited the tea party at the Mad Hatters. The slot is pretty cheerful and colourful – everything is purple and red. It’s that same classic era as the Pollen Nation slot, Tomb Raider and Mermaids Millions.
The reels are big and take up the whole screen. So far, so mad. The entire game is an onslaught to the senses, there is constantly some mad giggling, or some cuckoo clock going off and the soundtrack sounds like there’s a mental circus band in the background.
This slot game has 30 pay-lines (10 more than Free Spin City) and 5 reels and is brought to us courtesy of Microgaming. The symbols with the highest value on your reels are made up of by three wacky jolly characters wearing impressively large mad hats. While lower value symbols are straight from the tea party table: a cup of tea, various ice creams, cupcakes, huge slices cake and a tea pot.
The cuckoo clock acts as bonus symbol and the Scatter symbol in this game is the blue rabbit emerging from the hat. Both symbols will activate their own bonus game once you manage to get 3x or more of them anywhere on the reels. It’s all wrapped up in that classic Microgaming look that you’ll recognise from older games like the Oriental Fortune Slot and Tomb Raider.
Bonus Features and Free Spins
The Mad Hatter treats the guests of his tea party with 2 bonus features.
Firstly, there’s the Blue Rabbit which rewards the player with 10x, 25x or even 50x free spins, depending whether you landed 3, 4 or 5 symbols to begin with. As this would be far too oridinary for a mad slot like this, before the actual free spins start, the player will be given the chance to change up one of the characters into an extra wild for the duration of the feature. Also, all wins during free spins will be doubled which can very lucrative indeed!
Then there’s the Cuckoo bonus, that’s triggered by landing 3x, 4x or 5x of the cuckoo clock symbols anywhere on the reels. The player will then get to pick 1, 2 or 3 of the clocks respectively – and each of them will reveal a coin value. The top prize here is 13,500 coins, so pick wisely my friends!
There is also an expanding wild feature: it’s activated once the red top hat symbol lands on the centre reel. It will then expand across the entire reel, giving the player the chance of winning the craziest combos.
Mad Hatters is nice little slot, and we are fans of the theme. The base game itself seems to be on low variance end of the spectrum, but with the 3 bonkers bonus features you can win yourself silly! Take a trip to Wonderland Wombat fans, you won’t be sorry…
