Lucky Lions: Wild Life

Lions are a little intimidating if you happen to be a Wombat, but I am happy to spin them around the reels if there’s a prize in there somewhere. They are not as scary as the dinos in the Raging Rex 2 slot I guess. That’s another good game.

The Lucky Lions slot is a game created by developer, Gamevy. It was released onto the market in the summer months of 2021 and has gained gradual popularity since its launch.

As you can guess from the title, the slot is themed around Lions and related animals, giving it an African or Safari theme. There are plenty of big successes in that genre (Mega Moolah is the obvious one), so the game is in good company.  The theme is pretty common in slot games, maybe not as popular as the Ancient Egypt or Greek Mythology games, but still. Don´t start me on the Irish category!

Look and Feel

So, the theme of this game is Safari, and in the background of the game, you will see some beautiful ambient skies clouding over luscious trees and long blades of vibrant grass. It´s time to put your beige safari suit on Wombat Fans. We´re going in.

The colours in the game look great, with a nice contrast between pink/orange skies and the rest of the background of the game. Looking more at the reels themselves, the bright and vibrant colours’ theme continues with the symbols. I feel like I am on holiday already, fire up the Land Rover.

The lower-paying symbols are the usual card symbols 9, 10, J, Q, K and A, the same as the Gladiator Legends slot (well, most games in fact). These symbols are prevalent in the reels and you will probably put together more combinations of these than you will of any other symbol.

The rest of the symbols on the reels are  animals you might see on a safari. There’s a Jackal (or is it a bat-eared fox?), a Zebra, a Buffalo, a leopard and, of course, the mighty Lion. There is also a Bonus symbol and a Wild symbol of course. Gamevy are not breaking with tradition on this one.

The Wild symbol in this game is a Diamond, and whenever a Wild is part of a winning combination, it can have a random multiplier added to it that will be anything from 2x to 5x, which, if you’re lucky, could make for some  wins.

The bonus symbol is a golden paw print with the word ‘Bonus’ across the surface to distinguish it from the other symbols.

The game is pretty smooth with some decent animations and some very chilled sound effects.

Lucky Lions Bonus Features

The bonus round is triggered by landing a certain amount of bonus scatter symbols on your reels.

If you trigger the bonus round with just three scatter symbols, you get eight Free Spins, but if you trigger it with six scatter symbols, you get a whopping 100 Free Spins. That pricked your ears up I bet!

During these spins, with the multiplier diamond wilds, you can see some nice runs for no cost to your bankroll except for the triggering spin.

On my  session, I managed to trigger the bonus round with eight Free Spins (3 scatter symbols).

Game Test

On the very first spin, I landed 4 of the Lion symbols on the reels, which paid out 40.00 for a 4-way win. Continuing with the spins, I landed a few smaller ones with diamond multipliers involved in the action. On the final spin of the 8 Free Spins I landed, I hit another solid win, seeing 5 Lion symbols and a Diamond wild. The wild could have been anything up to 5x, but we only got a 2x.

The base game ticks along, but it´s the bonus feature that makes the game with the obvious fact that the spins are additional chances to make wins without having to spin for money.

Conclusion

This game is an excellent addition to the Gamevy catalogue and a solid member of the Wombat Casino catalogue. Vibrant colours, decent bonus features and warm skies make the Lucky Lions slot an overall immersive and enjoyable game.
