What’s The Deal?
Drum roll please… It’s what we’ve all been waiting for! Yes, the Gonzo’s Gold slot has finally been released – and this wombat is beside himself!
This is probably the most awaited release since the Game of Thrones Power Stacks slot sequel from Slingshot. Let’s take a look.
Gonzo’s Quest from NetEnt came out way back in 2011, and was an instant success thanks to its Avalanche Reel mechanism and plucky conquistador hero. And we’ve been waiting years for its sequel.
And here it is! This time they’ve got rid of the cascading reels and made the game a cluster pay slot, plus there is a max win of up to 6,500x your bet on offer, and a symbol expansion modifier in the Free Spins.
This could be the most significant relaunch of a classic since the Rainbow Riches Midnight Magic slot was launched by SG Digital. Or is it?
It’s time to head back to Central America and the hunt for Incan gold!
Graphics & Theme
Your Gonzo game action takes place in an ornate Inca temple where the gold-framed reels are set on huge stone pillars. The visuals and sound effects are top notch, however, we miss Gonzo and his comedy antics to the left side of the game play!
The game’s highest paying symbol is the great Conquistador himself while the engraved Inca faces in purple, blue and green make up the rest of the premium icons in play.
Your low paying symbols are the 10, J, Q K & A from the playing card deck, while the gold temple on a red background is both your wild icon and scatter symbol.
Gonzo’s Gold Game Play
Gonzo’s Gold slot comes with 5 reels, 5 rows and a cluster pay mechanic – so there are no pay-lines. Instead, to make a win, you need to hit 3 x or more high paying symbols in a cluster, or 4x or more lower paying icons
Place your bets from at 0.10 to 200.00 golden Inca coins per spin. Gonzo’s Gold comes with medium volatility which means you’ll see small frequent payout and the odd chunky win, too.
The maximum possible win in this game is a pretty decent 5000x your bet.
Hit 3x or more the golden temple wild/scatters and the Free Spins bonus will trigger. Before the round starts, you have to choose an icon that will become the Expanding Symbol for bonus spins
Whenever 2x or more Expanding Symbols hit the reels next to each other, the icons will expand to cover the whole row or reel. This can give you some epic ‘Book Of Dead…’ style wins.
The spins are also re-triggerable an unlimited number of times, which is music to this wombat’s ears…
The Gonzo’s Gold slot is a solid sequel, and we’re big fans of new features; the cluster pay mechanic and expanding symbol Free Spins.
But (and it’s a big BUT) there isn’t a great deal going on in this game bonus wise, and we were expecting more innovation – just like in the original. Plus, a bit more action from Gonzo himself!
Overall, it’s worth a spin, particularly if you liked playing Gonzo’s Quest.
Wombat score: 4/5
