Flux
This game is no longer available at Wombat Casino. Why not have a spin on NetEnt’s far more popular slot Starburst instead?
The Wombat says: And yet again Wombat Fans we are off into the boundless vastness of space. This time it’s the Flux slot from the Swedish games wizards Thunderkick.
But hang on! The first thing we noticed is that Flux bears a striking resemblance with NetEnt’s blockbuster slot, Starburst. Same space theme, same retro flair, even the soundtrack is somewhat similar. So are we dealing with a knock off or does the young contender pack a punch against the top dog? Let’s fire up this game that’s brighter than the Joker Jester slot (OK, not quite), hurl ourselves into the outer reaches of the universe and find out!
Just like Starburst, this slot has a retro arcade 16-bit feel to it.
The 3D graphics with its smooth animations, plenty of cool special effects and slick animations are a real treat for the eyes when you compare it to more traditional games like the When Pigs Fly slot machine.
The visuals are accompanied by a hypnotic soundtrack which fits perfectly to the dreamy flow of the game and will keep you spinning for yet another round.

Flux is a 5 reel slot with 15 fixed pay lines, less then games like the Penguin Splash slot, but more than others we have seen- we’d label this game as a medium volatility slot.
The symbols on your reels look like a who’s who of your GCSE geometry class: plenty of hexagons, the odd rhombus, all kinds of diamonds and some 3D-star shape thingy good old Euclid probably couldn’t have imagined in his wildest dreams. That said, Flux is somewhat less enigmatic with its other symbols: the “B” stands for bonus, while “W” stands for wild … Well, at least they don’t keep you guessing.
In terms of variance, Flux seems to be in the same league as Starburst. It’s positioned somewhere between middle and low, meaning that overall there is chance of getting frequent, but smaller wins. However, the Free Spins make up for it and with some luck you can win a tidy sum there. Bravo!
Flux really shines with its bonus games. Land 3x or more of the ‘B’ bonus symbols and you’ll trigger the Bonus Game mode ( which are basically all Free Spins). However, the best part is that you can choose between 3 different modes before the bonus round starts:
A) More Free Spins with both ways being active (meaning you can win from right to left as as well as left to right). This will give you the highest amount of spins.
B) 3 extra rows (so 7 rows on the reels instead of the 4 rows of the standard game), which will give you less spins
C) both ways activated AND the 3 extra rows, which will give you even fewer Free Spins
So it’s either lots of Free Spins and a lower win potential or less Free Spins but with more oomph. The maximum amount of Free Spins you can win with 5x bonus symbols is 48 with the lowest mode.
So what’s the verdict, the Flux slot or Starburst? Well, it’s pretty much a tie there and it’s all rather a matter of taste.
Even though both games are quite similar in look and feel, the gameplay does differ a bit.
Flux is one step ahead in terms of visuals while Starburst has more balanced game mechanics. The only way to find yourself is to play!
