The Wombat says: If you love a celebration as much as this Wombat then the dazzling Chinese New Year theme of Dragon Dance will get your slot tastebuds tingling. Enter the world of mysterious lantern light, captivating dancing dragons and the promise of some chunky payouts.
It’s certainly got more bells and whistles on it than the likes of the Cherry Blossoms slot– there are more bangers about I suppose.
But here’s the real mystery: is this game the banging fire cracker it was geared up to be? Or more of a damp dragon with no fire in its belly? This reel-loving Wombat can’t wait to find out!
Look and Feel
The warm red colouring of the backdrop welcomes you into a Chinese temple, amid New Year festivities. It is bedecked with vibrant paper lanterns and decorated with iconic Dragons, reminding the player of the Dragon Dance that’s about to begin.
The reels themselves are emblazoned with Chinese emblems and sit inside a traditional green roofed temple building. It’s all a world away from earlier games like the 3 reel Cool Buck slot and Treasure Nile (although the latter has a rather nice progressive jackpot attached to it).
There’s also a job lot of Oriental-themed touches with the bamboo fans, costumed dragons and cymbals adorning the lower paying icons on the reels.
While the celebrations are ramped up even further by the tinkling of traditional Chinese instruments, that soothed this wombat with some delicious drums and cymbals. Very zen-like…
Dragon Dance slot has 5 reels, 3 rows and 243 pay-lines just like the Cool Wolf slot, but that’s where the similarities end. Wins are made by landing matching symbols anywhere on adjacent reels, from left to right. When you win, there’s an explosion of yen coins as they fly into the air, which was mega gratifying for this wonga-loving Wombat!
The symbols on the reels are made up of a spectacular traditional dragon dance costume, a female dancer some crashing cymbals together, a man drumming, a traditional Chinese dragon and a pair of costumed dancers. These are mixed in with the standard A, K, Q, J, 10 & 9 that make up your lower paying symbols.
The Wild is the game’s logo and will substitute for all symbols except for the Scatter. The Scatter in Dancing Dragon is naturally a line of fire crackers – this marsupial’s not too keen on big bangs but this one is a winner!
Lands 3x, 4x or 5x of the Scatters across the reels and there are 15 free spins up for grabs with a cymbal-crashing x3 multiplier! And there’s more; we were very nearly overcome with excitement when we discovered that if you land a further 3x Scatters then you’ll re-trigger the spins. Happy New Year!
Dragon Dance does come with a very welcome re-spin feature, so that at the end of each go, the player can re-spin one of the reels as many times as they like. OK, it comes at a price, but it’s a price worth paying as you’ll get the chance to land 5x in a row combos, or to spin for more Scatters.
If you like your games with an Oriental theme and a slot where those free spins just keep on coming, then this could be right up your street. When you add the re-spin feature into the mix then Dragon Dance is definitely worth dusting off your auspicious red party best for! Bonza!
