The wombat says: Here’s a blast from the past!
Do you remember Top Cat? The mischievous cartoon feline whose sole aim in life was to irritate Officer Dibble along with his mangy street cat crew Choo, Fancy-Fancy, Benny, Brains and Spook.
Well, Blueprint Gaming have got hold of the rights to this Hanna Barbara classic, and have put together a great slot based around it. If you are looking for big cats, try the Jungle Spirit slot by the way. We’re just saying, as the graphics are amazing. Anyway, back to the tabbies…
Top Cat has 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 paylines. Your reels are set in Manhattan against a backdrop of Top Cat’s infamous alley with the dustbin (his home) and his red phone box. It’s one of our favourite cartoon slots along with King Cashalot– we like that one because it has a huge jackpot!
Your high value symbols are Top Cat, Benny the Ball, Choo-Choo, Brain, Fancy-Fancy and Spook, while the usual playing cards J, Q, K & A make up your lower paying symbols in the slot. TC himself is the game’s high roller, scooping you 400 coins for a combo of 5x. He’ll also appear stacked and can fill entire reels, so makes for a nice money spinner. The Wild in Top Cat slot is the Fish Bones symbol and it will substitute for all others on the reels to help you land winning combos.
Base Game Features
There are 4 cheeky little extras that are set off randomly in the base game by seeing Top Cat on the blower and they include:
Choo’s Piano Wilds
Where random wilds are added to the reels after a piano falls on poor Choo’s head. Ouch!
Benny’s Colossal TVs
Here Benny will add a bunch of TVs to your reels that turn into random symbols – including prizes! Cheers Benny!
Brain’s Water Wilds
Brains adds a fire hydrant underneath each reel turning a random one completely wild
Spook’s Mice Is Nice
Some friendly mice land on your reels to mix up and move around the existing symbols
The Master Plan Bonus
Now say ‘hi’ to the main bonus feature of this Top Cat slot, The Master Plan.
Land 3x of the Bonus Scatters anywhere on reels 1, 3 or 5, and you’ll get to choose which of the 5 madcap Masterplan Bonuses you’ll receive from a chalkboard on a second screen. Here’s the options:
Cash Picker Bonus
Choose from TC’s garbage bins to give you instant wins and a possible win multiplier.
Another pick ’em game, but this one takes place over 2 levels. Stage 2 is the Big Money Board where the cash prizes are won.
Diner Free Spins
It’s unlimited Free Spins for you on a new set of reels set in a diner. You can collect increasing multipliers and Meal Ticket Scatters.
Dibble’s Free Spins
More Free Spins but with a Wild Symbol that roams across the different reel positions to help you win the best possible combos.
Construction Site Free Spins
Collect the Top Cat stickers on top of the symbols. The more TC’s you get, the more chance you’ll have of moving on to the next reels where you’ll find more Free Spins up for grabs.
Fancy-Fancy’s Hot Dog Respins
What’s all this about then? Well, the Hot Dog Respins is a separate mini game triggered by landing the Giant Hotdog on reel 5. Fancy Fancy and the others try to steal from the hot dog seller, and as the reels respin, the Giant Hotdog Wild moves left across the reels with each go. The game ends when the Wild falls off the screen. Laters hot dog.
And finally…. The Progressive Jackpot
As one of Blueprint Gaming’s Jackpot King series, there’s the chance to scoop the mighty progressive jackpot in Top Cat slot. It’s triggered by landing 5 Jackpot King symbols after a spin, so keep your eyes peeled Wombat Fans! You’ll collect crowns then spin a wheel of fortune which could win you the progressive prize.
If you like Top Cat, you should also give our Foxin Wins scratchcard and slot games a go. We’re just saying!
Top Cat slot has got more extras than we’ve had hot dinners, which is saying something – and not all of them make much sense. But we love the overall theme, and the base game bonuses come thick and fast – even if they only pay out small wins. A nice slot.
Wombat Score: 4/5
Loses a point for not having the original soundtrack…
