Treasure Nile
The Wombat says: Those pyramids. Do they carry secret messages? Did aliens build them? Or were they simply nothing but megalomanic tombstones? We’ll probably never figure out their secret entirely, which is probably what makes ’em such an intriguing pile of stones. Sadly, Australia hasn’t got much to offer in this department – I mean we have natural beauty but when it comes to old buildings even Wombat Towers probably qualifies – and I built it in 1987 ( with my very own paws if I might add)!
But back to the game which is from the same era as the likes of the Hot Shot slot and Tomb Raider: let’s head to the banks of the Nile over 4,000 years ago and see if we can’t find the Pharaoh’s treasure…
Listen out for the sound effects of the Nile trickling along through ancient Egypt, and song birds tweeting away. It fits the game perfectly and is actually quite pleasant.
Treasure Nile is a 5 reel slot with 3 rows and 9 paylines. It has an ancient Egyptian-themed slot, and this is reflected in your symbols on the reels. Among the higher symbols, there’s a Pharaoh (maybe King Tut himself?), the Sphinx, the guardian of the Underworld himself, Anubis (who’d also be comfortable in the Dogfather slot machine) and the Ankh-cross. Your lower paying symbols are made up of hieroglyph scrolls, golden wheat, Egyptian jewellery and boats bobbing on the Nile.
The scarabaeus acts as Scatter and does what Scatter symbols have been doing since the dawn of mankind: paying out the some extra cash wins regardless of their position on the reels. So each time you land 3x or more of the Scarab Beetles, your reward will be multiplied by the total number of credits you’ve placed in this round.
And if there is a Scatter, then the Wild won’t be far away. In this game pyramids overlooking the Nile are the wild symbols, which substitute all other symbols (except for the scatter, obviously). This isn’t a high tech game, by any means- think Genies Gems slot rather than Jurassic World, but it is still a classic and great fun too play.
Well, if you were looking for some chunky bonus extras Wombat Fans, Treasure Nile slot has got a gigantic sarcophagus full of monumental nothing for you. Yes, indeed, there are no Free Spins nor any other kind of bonus games. People back then didn’t have the time for such frivolities, cos let’s face it those pyramids didn’t build themselves.
But all is not lost. Instead of a bonus game, Treasure Nile does at least offer a progressive jackpot which grows frequently to over 150k! However, it’s buried deeper than some treasure chambers. This Jackpot needs all 5 Pharaoh symbols on the last, and only the last payline. And if that isn’t already hard enough, it also needs to be on max bet.
So if you want a chance to scoop the jackpot, you’ll have to fork out at least 4,50 per round. Which means the curse of the stingy pharaoh will render your wallet into a barren wasteland in the blink of an eye…
Treasure Nile slot is a bit of a mixed bag. On the downside are the dated graphics and the absence of any bonus games. But on the plus side we have an attractive jackpot and some straightforward gameplay. Give this one a try if you feel like playing old school slots without any fluff.
